A word appears — quickly count its vowels (A, E, I, O, U) and click the right number! 60 seconds, as many words as you can. Tests your speed and focus.
How it works
Vowel Hunter is a fast-paced reaction game where a word appears on screen briefly and you must tap the button showing the correct number of vowels in that word before time runs out. The five standard English vowels — A, E, I, O, U — are what you count; Y is not counted.
The challenge is speed. Words flash on screen for only a second or two, so you need to scan and count simultaneously rather than methodically going letter by letter. High scores come from training yourself to group letters into vowel clusters at a glance.
Each round includes a series of words of increasing length, so early questions are easy warm-ups and later ones require rapid processing of longer words. A running score and reaction-time display help you track your improvement across sessions.
Vowel Hunter is a great exercise for phonics awareness, reading speed, and linguistic pattern recognition. Teachers use it as a classroom activity for early readers learning to identify vowels within words.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Counting Y as a vowel when it is not included in this game's definition.
- Missing repeated vowels in words like BANANA or COFFEE where the same vowel appears more than once.
- Tapping before fully scanning the word; a half-second of focus beats a hasty wrong tap.
