Token Allocation Calculator
Calculate how many tokens and what dollar value corresponds to each percentage allocation in your crypto portfolio.
How to use this tool
- Enter your total portfolio value in dollars.
- Enter the percentage you want to allocate to this token.
- Enter the current token price.
- Read the dollar allocation, number of tokens to buy, and remaining portfolio value.
Decide how many tokens to buy for a target portfolio allocation without overspending. Not financial advice.

Formula
Allocation ($) = Portfolio Value ($) × Allocation % ÷ 100
Tokens = Allocation ($) ÷ Token Price ($)
Remaining ($) = Portfolio Value ($) − Allocation ($)
How it works
This tool computes the dollar amount allocated to one asset based on a percentage of total portfolio value, then divides that dollar amount by the current token price to determine how many tokens can be purchased. The remaining portfolio value is the original total minus the allocated portion. The calculation assumes the token price is stable at the entered value and does not account for slippage, trading fees, or fractional token minimums.
Worked example
- Total portfolio value = $10,000; allocation = 25%; token price = $500.
- Allocation in dollars: $10,000 × 25 ÷ 100 = $2,500.
- Tokens purchased: $2,500 ÷ $500 = 5 tokens.
- Remaining portfolio: $10,000 − $2,500 = $7,500.
Allocation = $2,500 → 5 tokens; remaining portfolio = $7,500
Common mistakes to avoid
- Letting allocation percentages sum to more than 100%, leaving the math inconsistent and the remaining-balance figure negative.
- Using current market price for token count but a different price for dollar allocation, producing internally contradictory results.
- Ignoring trading fees and slippage when converting dollar allocation to token count, so the actual tokens received fall short of the calculated figure.
Key terms
- Portfolio allocation
- The proportion of total investment capital assigned to a specific asset, usually expressed as a percentage.
- Position sizing
- The process of determining how much capital to deploy into a given trade or asset.
- Token price
- The market price of a single token at the time of purchase.
- Slippage
- The difference between the expected trade price and the actual executed price, especially relevant for large orders or low-liquidity markets.
- Diversification
- Spreading capital across multiple assets to reduce concentration risk.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a token allocation?
- A token allocation is the fraction of your total portfolio dedicated to a specific asset. Spreading allocations (diversification) reduces concentration risk.
- How many tokens should I allocate per asset?
- This depends on your risk tolerance. A common approach is to limit any single token to 10–25% of a portfolio to avoid overconcentration.
